This was the page we read in one of Norah's history books today. It's a drawing of the Ishtar Gate in Babylon.

Seeing this, I was able to better understand one of my favorite passages of Scripture. "Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land." Proverbs 31:23

The whole 31st chapter in the book of Proverbs talks about the traits of a godly woman, but this verse in particular speaks about how a wife's excellence can cause her husband to succeed as well or at least that is how I read the verse. It inspires me to do well at home, so Dwayne is freed up to do well at work.

But, it never really made sense to me that a bunch of important men or city leaders would be hanging out around a gate. Well, when the gate is like this gate, more like a castle and less like a bunch of iron bars on creaky hinges, it makes perfect sense that all the leaders would congregate there.

Here's to Norah's history lesson for making the Bible come more alive to me!
