I discovered a great way to save money by spending a little more: homemade ice cream cones. I never used to buy this kind of junk at the grocery store because I wanted to avoid buying or eating this kind of junk, seemed simple enough. But, it really was never that simple. I got honest with myself and took a hard look at our habits and realized that we are going to want to eat ice cream after dinner some summer evenings and then I realized that keeping cones and ice cream in our house would actually prevent me from giving into the temptation of going out to the ice cream shop. So, now, every two weeks or so, I will buy a box of name brand ice cream and some sugar cones and after the kids eat all their dinner, we will make our own cones, sit outside and have the quality family time we are really craving without paying the premium prices for ice cream from the shop.
